China's futuristic 'straddling bus' begins production this week

Wednesday, July 6, 2016 /
The so-called "straddling bus," an elevated public transit system that has generated renewed interest after a real honest-to-god mini model was unveiled at the 19th China Beijing International High-Tech Expo in May, starts production this week. The future is now!

According to the Global Times, China's world-famous Transit Elevated Bus (TEB) will consist of four cars in total, each being about 22 meters long, 7.8 meters wide and 4.8 meters high.

Jinchuang Corp, located in Changzhou, Jiangsu, has the honor of producing the first model. The chief engineer of the project, Song Youzhou, says that "some portion of the bus will be made of glass to make passengers feel less confined. Song added that the bus will be able to take up to 1,200 passengers and is completely operated by electric power.
The TEB has received some rather mixed reviews from the Chinese online community since its re-introduction in May. While some are patriotically ecstatic about the invention -- "We Chinese finally came up with something original for once" -- others remain pessimistic about the project, saying that they would rather not "drive under a moving tunnel, unable to see the street lights."
Workers had better hurry up, because the TEB is scheduled for a (lame) test run in August. We can't wait!

UEFA ban players' families from on-pitch celebrations

/
The sight of players celebrating Euro 2016 victories on the pitch with their families could be a thing of the past now that UEFA wants to prohibit all non-accredited people from going on the field.
Tournament director Martin Kallen cited security risks as the main reason for UEFA's request.

"We're not totally against it, but we have to be cautious and ensure security," he said. "It is a European Championship not a family party.

"A stadium is not the safest place for small kids. Only people with accreditation can access the pitch, nobody else."
As well as pointing to the security risks of allowing children on the pitch, Kallen also explained the need to preserve the grass.
Speaking about the state of the turf at the Stade de France - the venue for the final - he was confident that it would be sufficient.
"There shouldn't be a problem as we have roughly a week and in the most recent matches we've seen that the Stade de France turf was of much better quality, [it is good,] not excellent," he explained.
Asked about the prohibiting of teams from training on stadium pitches ahead of some matches, the director insisted that this was a necessary precaution.
"There are always concerns about the grass as it is used a lot," Kalen said.
More serious concerns have also emerged for European football's governing body following reports that a 25-year-old British fan was stabbed near Paris' Gare du Nord after the France-Iceland match on Sunday.
Emergency treatment was required at Pitie-Salpetriere Hospital and he now appears to be stable.

Watch live as NASA's Juno mission attempts to enter Jupiter's orbit

/

The biggest space event of the year is happening soon. On July 4, NASA’s un-crewed Juno spacecraft will end its nearly five-year journey through space and embark on a mission to study the planet Jupiter like never before.
But first, the spacecraft must lock on to Jupiter into what’s called a polar orbit. This is the most dangerous part of the entire Juno mission, and is what NASA will be watching instead of fireworks this holiday weekend.

As Juno approaches its destination on July 4, Jupiter’s tremendous gravitational pull will accelerate the spacecraft to blazing speeds of more than 150,000 mph (241,000 km/h), making Juno one of the fastest human-made objects ever built.
After reaching a max speed of 165,000 mph (266,000 km/h) – fast enough to fly around Earth in 9 minutes – Juno will slam on the breaks by firing its engines. This is where things get tricky.
The Juno spacecraft weighs 3,500 pounds (1,600 kg) and will be barreling through space at 215 times the speed of sound. To slow down, the engines will fire for 35 minutes straight, burning through 17,600 pounds (7,900 kg) of fuel in the process.
If all goes according to plan, this perilous manoeuvre will place Juno into orbit around Jupiter, where the spacecraft will remain over the next 18 months, providing an unprecedented look at Jupiter’s powerful gravitational and magnetic fields.
If something goes wrong, the US$1.13 billion mission will shoot past Jupiter, into deep space with no chance of return.
NASA only has one shot at this. The engine burn will start at 11:18pm ET on July 4.
You can watch the action at NASA unfold beginning at 10:30pm ET, as engineers monitor Juno’s instruments and anxiously await confirmation of the burn’s success. Witness history in the making on NASA TV or below:

How To Get WIFI Signal From 1/4 Mile Away [or more] for less than $60

/

Yea I know, you don't believe me. 1/4 mile? Shenanigans.

Still reading? Great.
The whole thing started when I dropped my friend off for Horse lessons and didn't want to drive all the way home only to drive back to pick her up in an hour and a half. So what did I do? Drove to the closest neighborhood and got on an open WIFI network.

[NOTE: Connecting to someone’s WIFI without their permission is illegal in some areas!!!]
The network I connected to was a local realtor’s OPEN HOUSE FREE PUBLIC WIFI network…so I didn’t break any laws.

The problem was, the signal was very weak and I had to hold the computer at odd angles just to do a simple google search.
THERE HAS TO BE ANOTHER WAY!
So after about twenty minutes of searching and finding things like “wokfi” and “parabolic asian cookware” I had the basic idea of what I needed to do; Concentrate the signal onto the antenna using a parabola. After a bit more searching I found out how to build a parabola out of a cd and a glass pot top, but I figured that it would be too weak for the distances that I am looking for [I would like to be able to connect right from the parking lot at the stables] Then there was the world record holder who had built a reflector out of a 10 foot diameter dish but that was WAY too big. So I compromised and picked up a rooftop satellite dish from a guy on Craigslist.org.

Long story short I built the thing and drove out to the stables, turned the rig on, started netstumbler, and started looking it took a little bit but I got the right angle to lock onto a signal and SHAZAM! I was connected!

So I knew that I had working signal, not just a fizzled connection from the router. The noise was at -100 and the signal was hovering around -75 or so. Not the fastest connection but based on the fact that I was ¼ of a mile away from the router I would say I was doing pretty darn good!

Ok enough with the stories, how do you build the darn thing!

You need:
A satellite dish [and the four screws holding it to the roof [YMMV]
A pair of scrap 2x4’s
A tin can [green bean sized]
A usb extention cord
A usb wireless adapter [in this build I am using the cheapest adapter I could find [$30 at target]
Two wood screws long enough to screw your two 2x4’s together
Some hot glue
An unwanted cd [I picked up a free netzero disk at Wally’s]
A glass pot lid shaped like a parabola
Some spray paint to make it look pretty
And some carpet of you are going to be mounting it to the roof of your car so It won’t scratch it.

The total cost for the build was only the $30 for the usb adapter, I had everything else on hand.

If you bought everything new it would cost around $60 [Not counting the dish]

Step 1: Form The Rear Reflector

Step 1:

Take your parabolic lid, remove the handle, it should just be a screw.
Take your CD, place it mirror side up in the glass lid.
Place the CD in the oven THEN set the oven to 300 degrees [faren if anybody is wondering]
[WARNING: If you put the cd in a preheated oven the cd will crack and the foil will wrinkle! This is bad for signal reflection! Start with a cold oven.]

Leave the CD in there for about an hour to an hour and a half [I just put it in there while I was building the rest of the rig]

After it is done forming take it out of the oven and IMMEDIATELY depress the center of the disk with something heat resistant like a spoon to form the CD to the parabola.

Let cool.

Microsoft Office for iPad Pro will require a subscription

/
Microsoft surprised everyone almost a year ago by allowing iPad and iPhone owners todownload its Office for iOS software free of charge. You don't need an Office 365 subscription to edit documents or store them in the cloud on an iPad or iPhone, but if you're planning to buy the larger iPad Pro you won't get Office for free. Microsoft has confirmed to Ars Technica that Office on the iPad Pro will require an Office 365 subscription to edit documents.

That might come as a surprise to many, but it's a policy for bigger tablets that Microsoftimplemented in March. Microsoft has a cut off point for free Office Mobile, and any tablet larger than 10.1 inches will require an Office 365 subscription to edit documents. The same restriction applies to Microsoft's Windows 10 Office Mobile apps and versions for Android. While it's not clear exactly how Microsoft will restrict the use of Office for iPad Pro, if you want to edit documents you'll need to buy an Office 365 Personal subscriptionfor $6.99 per month (or $69.99 a year).

7 things Every short men need to avoid

/
Height does not equate heart. The true measure of a man is not his stature but his will power. These are some beautiful and inspiring words. People who are shot generally feel or should I say are made to feel a little insecure and low by the society. But that is so not the case. As they say good things come in small packages. A person’s height does not make him more or less appealing to others. It is actually the way he carries himself, his attitude and personality, these are the things that charm people around him. There have been short guys who have left huge impressions with their ideas, style and work. For example take Tom Cruise or Aamir Khan. Both are short men, but that has not affected their fan following. They are still heartthrobs. Some times it so happens that you may be average or even tall but may be feeling insecure by other taller people around you. In such cases it is important to first and foremost be comfortable in your own skin.

You need to be able to look in the mirror and not see your perceptions but your reality. You should know both your strengths and weaknesses. This is what will attract people towards you. Your comfort in and acceptance of your true self will make you enigmatic and charismatic.
Apart from these there are some things you can do, that will give you an edge. This is where style and fashion helps you out. A few simple rules and tricks and you can change the way people perceive you.

HERE ARE 7 THINGS SHORT MEN NEED TO AVOID BY ALL MEANS!
1. OPT FOR VERTICAL STRIPES:

Stripes create a visual effect. The eye naturally travels in their direction. Thus horizontal stripes makes you look broader and vertical stripes makes the eyes travel up rather than across. They thus create an illusion of a few extra inches. So you should incorporate more vertical striped items like shirts and t-shirts in your wardrobe and also pick textured fabrics like corduroy.

2. AVOID BAGGY CLOTHES:

Baggy clothes actually do not look good on anybody. It makes you look sloppy, like you have stolen them from someone else. For men who are vertically challenged, baggy clothes just draw attention to your slight frame. Shorter men need to dress smartly. Make sure all your clothes fit you well. Pay very close attention to the cuts and designs of the clothes you pick.

3. GET YOUR CLOTHES CUSTOM MADE:

A tailor has his own bag of tricks to make a client look taller or slimmer or muscular than he is. A nip here, a tuck there, a little hemming, slight shift in the position of the buttons and you will look and feel like a whole new person. If possible get a nice tailor on your side. He will, with just a few snips of his scissors make your clothes come alive. But this is only for people with a budget. For those who want a pocket friendly option can just go for some select custom made pieces like suits, jacket or sport coat, to ensure the perfect fit.

4. AVOID PANTS, DENIMS AND TROUSERS WITH CUFFS AND PLEATS:

Your goal should be to create long and lean lines. Cuffs make your legs look shorter.

4. AVOID PANTS, DENIMS AND TROUSERS WITH CUFFS AND PLEATS:

Your goal should be5. GET YOUR ACCESSORIES RIGHT:

Short and narrow is the key to accessorizing for men of non average height. Your tie should be in proportion to your body. Generally the ties available in the market today do not cater to men who are short. The neck ties are too long; normally they go past the waistband and thus attract attention to your short frame. They are also very wide which makes you look a little stout. I would suggest you look for ties that are specifically designed for shorter men. Instead of the normal length of 58-60 inches, you should go for ties that are about 54-56 inches. Make sure the width of the neck tie is no more than 2.5-3 inches. The same rule should apply to your Belt too. Pick a belt that is not too long or wide. Go for a slimmer design. Your Watch strap should also be narrow.to create long and lean lines. Cuffs make your legs look shorter.

6. AVOID STRONG PATTERNS AND PRINTS:

Anything loud or too vibrant will not work for you. These overwhelming patterns will disrupt the visual illusion or effect that you are striving to create. Go for subtle prints and patterns like checks and stripes. For the lengthening effect to work you need to stick to a color palette, so coordinate your ensemble well and if you want to add an edge then a single piece in a bold and vibrant color will do the trick.

7. HEELS:

Platform soles or risers add a few inches to your frame but make you look really desperate. Embrace your height and wear normal shoes. They will make you look confident and classy.
